Unterbäch is located on a plateau 1,193 m above sea level with a beautiful view of the Rhone Valley. The mountain village can be reached all year round by cable car from Raron. You can reach it by car via Turtmann or Visp.

Unterbäch is an ideal starting point for hiking and biking tours to Ginals, the neighboring villages of Bürchen and Eischoll or the Moosalp region. Skiing, sledding or snowshoeing are the typical winter activities.

Unterbäch is called the "Rütli of Women" because the first Swiss vote with women's participation took place here on March 3, 1957. Since 2000, the 3.5 km long hiking trail from Unterbäch to Brandalp has been called the Women's Quotation Trail.
