The Bachhalteweg development is located on a slope at the upper edge of the settlement of the city of Brig. Within this area, known as gross Riedbach, the topic of water is very present. From a close distance you can hear the rushing of the Bachji, the Bachhalteweg as well as the Riedbachstrasse lead to the place. A system of moats directs the water to wherever it is needed during the summer months. The area is characterized by agricultural use, there are a handful of farm buildings in the immediate vicinity, and cows graze peacefully on the surrounding meadows. Since the 17th century, at the time of the rule of Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper, teaching companies have been established in the area. The monastery of St. Ursula and the Upper Valais Middle School, the College of Spiritus Sanctus and the Upper Valais Vocational School still bear witness to this today.
