"The Deer" - Attic 5.5 rooms

"The 1902" is an old traditional cottage that was erected that same year, and to which, to date, no renovation intervention has been carried out. Elements have been added without deteriorating the overall appearance.
Its particularity is due to its orientation whose main facade is turned towards the village. The view of the Dents du Midi is to the south-east and stays will be oriented on this facade.

The ensemble is registered in the heritage inventory and the Valais State Heritage Service has approved the renovation project. The facades of the cottage will be preserved as is, some elements in the process of destruction (east corner) will be replaced by reclaimed wood in good condition. The windows retain their original dimension, with small windows and shutters.
For static (snow loads) and thermal needs, the roof will be rebuilt to standards in the current size. The eaves will be treated in a traditional way with apparent herringbone, and double thickness marked in the wind and drip.

On the lower ground, the old excavated volume will be renovated to preserve its original appearance; the excavated part of the perimeter walls of the chalet will be built of reinforced concrete. There will be the main entrance of the building connecting from the covered parking, the staircase leading to the upper levels, the technical facilities PAC and hot water storage, the cellars.

The upper levels will be entirely rebuilt in wood structure, inside the planks envelope. These will be preserved in the state, or for some, reconstituted in old planks. The crossings of planks inside and outside will be maintained. Balconies and other typical elements will be renovated, balustrades rebuilt to standards. The fountain basin will be renovated and maintained in its place, as well as the soapstone sheath of 1902.

The roofing will consist of artificial slate, dark gray hue. The gutters, descents, as well as the vents on the roof will be copper or zinc titanium.

The renovation project respects the identity and the historical substance of the architecture.

The planned intervention intended to create a home to the standards of today comprising several apartments, habitable all year long and meeting the current standards of constructions.

"The 1902" is an old traditional chalet, which was built the same year and has never been renovated. While some parts of the cottage were added more recently, these have not been removed from the general aspect. The chalet is exceptional in the Champéry village. On the south-east side, the cottage looks towards the Dents du Midi and the living rooms will, where possible, be on this side.

The cottage is listed by the Historic Building Department. The facades of the cottage will be preserved as is; a few elements, which can not be renovated, will be replaced with recuperated wood. The original size of the windows will be preserved. The roof will be rebuilt to comply with current regulations.

On the lower ground floor, the existing excavated volume will be restored to the original appearance. The main entrance to the building, the technical room, the cellars.

The other floors will be totally rebuilt with wood inside the existing volume. The balconies and other original featurs will be renovated; the balconies will be rebuilt to comply with current regulations. The old stone fountain and the 1902 stone furnace will be renovated.

The supporting structure of the roof is made of wood, insulated from the inside. The roof will be tiled with artificial dark gray slate. The gutters and ventilation will be in copper or titanium zinc.
