Saxon, whose inhabitants are called Saxonans or Saxonintzes, is a Swiss commune in the district of Martigny. It is nestled in the middle of the rocky alpine massif, in the Rhone valley, with culminating Pierre Avoi at 2473 m altitude. The latter is one of the main hiking trails in the town.
Saxon was first part of a castle during medieval times. Its development was parallel to the opening of its first spa in 1839, followed by its casino in 1849. Today, the latter has become a leisure center, including a theater that hosts every year the Revue du Valais has recently been awarded the "Label 95" award. Among its historical monuments, there is also a tower, as well as the chapel of Sapinhaut. The Saxon Museum is located in the basement of the communal building.
