Situation

The town of Leuk sits on a south-facing hillside, at a point that marks a slight bend in the Rhone Valley, visible as far as Martigny.

It is overlooked by a plateau on which is located a large satellite reception station.

The Loèche vineyard produces Petite Arvine (Château Lichten), Pinot Noir (Reijjen), Fendant and other wines typical of the Valais region.

A vineyard path (66 km) starts in Leuk and ends in Martigny.

Loèche is one of the few Valais municipalities to extend over both banks of the Rhône. On the left bank (to the south) is, in the plain,

the locality of La Souste, at the bottom of a huge alluvial cone caused by the alluvium brought by the Illgraben.

On the eastern part of the torrent is a large bocage and on the western part begins the forest of Finges.

The forest of Finges or wood of Finges (in German: Pfynwald) is the largest pine forest in Europe; it constitutes a reserve destined to obtain the status

of "Natural Park" at the national level. In this forest is the monument commemorating the battle of Finges.

Whether in the bed of the Rhône (not channeled), the Bois de Finges or the dry meadows and cliffs of the hillside,

Leuk is an important nesting site for birds and a center for bird watching.
