St. Nicholas

In the middle of the Mattertal lies the municipality of St-Nicolas, almost halfway between Visp and Zermatt, which are only 20 minutes away by car. Even closer and more easily accessible by car or public transport is the remarkable family holiday resort of Grächen. Saas Fee is a 30-minute drive away in Saastal.

In St-Nicolas we appreciate the good geographical location, the perfect infrastructure, the magnificent nature and the direct access to the fascinating Alps. Village life is lived intensely thanks to numerous sports and cultural clubs. They regularly organize parties, celebrations and various events which are spread throughout the year. The exceptional leisure infrastructure is an additional asset, several tennis and football courts as well as an indoor swimming pool are only part of the offer. The village also has a kindergarten, a primary school and an orientation cycle.

There are 250 km of hiking trails in and around Grächen-St.Niklaus and to Zermatt and Saas-Fee. For passionate hikers, the mountain paths towards Saas-Fee or the "Europaweg" towards Zermatt provide a challenge.
